The AgroSOS event brought together vocational education students and agritech companies on 2 February at the CDTIC Building at INFECAR, in Gran Canaria, for a meeting designed to introduce new generations of professionals to innovation, technology and sustainability.

The initiative, organised by Fundación Sergio Alonso as part of the AgroSOS project, involved students and teachers from IES El Rincón, CIFP Felo Monzón Grau Bassas and IES Luis Vives, who shared progress on their work with professionals and business representatives.

Participating organisations included CANARAGUA, Grupo Félix Santiago Melián, Gestiriego Islas Canarias, COAGRISAN and Clúster Agrotech Canarias, bringing different perspectives on the application of technology in agriculture.

Bringing the world of business into the classroom

The event connected work carried out in educational institutions with the needs and opportunities of the professional world.

Alongside the student presentations, attendees heard about the experiences of companies working in the agritech sector and shared reflections on digital skills, the professional profiles in demand and career development opportunities in activities related to the primary sector.

This exchange is particularly relevant as agriculture increasingly adopts new tools for management, automation and digitalisation, creating a need for training and specialised professional skills.

Working together to support young talent

The participation of Clúster Agrotech Canarias and several of its member organisations introduced students to different areas of business and technological activity related to farming.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of providing opportunities for training institutions and companies to work together, encouraging mutual understanding and bringing the sector’s career opportunities closer to people in the early stages of their training.

Initiatives such as AgroSOS help demonstrate that the future of farming in the Canary Islands also depends on bringing in talent, new skills and technological solutions adapted to the real needs of agricultural holdings.
