The Radio Televisión Canaria programme Canarias Futura devoted its broadcast on 24 May 2026 to showing how technology is transforming the archipelago’s primary sector. Clúster Agrotech Canarias and several of its member companies took part, bringing attention to solutions already being developed and applied in the islands.
During the programme, José Luis Sújar, manager of Clúster Agrotech Canarias, shared the association’s vision of the need to connect companies, knowledge and technology to address the challenges facing farming in the Canary Islands.
The broadcast also featured Laura Santiago Aguiar, Vice-President of the Clúster and Chief Executive of Grupo Félix Santiago Melián; José A. Haroun, from Agrotecnologías Canarias (ATC); and Néstor Santiago Ávila, from Fibras Naturales Canarias.
Technology already in use on farms
The report explored different applications of agricultural innovation, from the use of drones and automation systems to solutions designed to make better use of available resources.
Examples included farms that combine solar energy generation with the production of irrigation water and the use of drones for more precise farming. The use of intelligent robots to assist with certain agricultural tasks was also explored.
Sustainability and the circular economy also featured through initiatives that recover agricultural waste and turn it into new products, such as the work carried out by Fibras Naturales Canarias.
These examples illustrate different ways of incorporating knowledge and technology into agricultural activity, with applications spanning production efficiency, resource management and the use of materials.
Visibility for the Canary Islands’ agrotechnology ecosystem
Taking part in Canarias Futura brought the work of companies and professionals developing solutions within the archipelago to a wider audience.
For Clúster Agrotech Canarias, this collaboration supports one of its main objectives: connecting the ecosystem’s capabilities and helping innovation reach people working in the primary sector.
The programme, directed and presented by Yaiza Díaz, helped to show that the technological transformation of agriculture in the Canary Islands is not merely a future prospect, but a reality already supported by active initiatives and companies in the islands.
